Info

I have been using the Web (WWW) and Internet since 1994, when I was studying a Computer Science Degree (BSc) course at UEL (University of East London) in Barking, Essex, UK.

I first started using technology at 3-4 years of age (in 1977/78) by visits to the Arcades and playing on a LED space video game.  Later on I was given an Atari 2600 and a Sinclair ZX Spectrum, where I learned programming in BASIC, plus playing a lot of video games.  A few years later, Amstrad took over Sinclair and so I got a Sinclair ZX Spectrum 128+2 (I owned two of them by 1988).  The end of the 1980's I did get a Commodore Amiga (where I learned more BASIC), followed by my first PC, a second-hand Olivetti 386sx-16mhz, back in 1992.  I started learning HTML in 1994, hosting my first website on UEL's web server.

The early days of the Web and the Internet was a big factor for me in deciding to work in IT professionally.  My first IT job was as a Junior IT Administrator back in 1996 administrating Windows NT, UNIX and Novell servers.  My work lead me to mainly using and supporting Microsoft software.  In 2000 I worked as a Software Developer for a number of years, until 2015, when I reverted back to IT Support roles.

I’ve got experience in many industries such as investment banking, insurance, and media.   Lately, the IT jobs I have worked in have been with nonprofits

Recently in 2025 I have been studying a few courses and improving my Python and Linux skills; I still code a bit in my own time.

Teresa-Ling Friend my wife is a Business Analyst.  We first met at UEL in 1995 and got married in 1998.
