Info

I have been using the Web and Internet since 1994, when I was studying a Computer Science Degree (BSc) course at UEL (University of East London) in Barking, Essex, UK.

I first started using technology at 3-4 years of age by visits to the Arcades and playing on basic handheld video games.  Later on I was given an Atari 2600 and a Sinclair ZX Spectrum, where I learned programming in BASIC, plus playing a lot of video games.  A few years later, Amstrad took over Sinclair and so I got a Sinclair ZX Spectrum 128+2.  My mid-teenage years I did get a Commodore Amiga, followed by my first PC, a second-hand Olivetti 386sx-16mhz.  I started learning HTML in 1994, hosting my first website on UEL's web server.

The early days of the Web and the Internet was a big factor for me in deciding to work in IT professionally.  My first IT job was as a Junior IT Administrator back in 1996 administrating Windows NT, UNIX and Novell servers.  My work lead me to mainly using and supporting Microsoft software.  In 2000 I worked as a Software Developer for a number of years, until 2015, when I reverted back to IT Support roles.

My early IT job experience was working in industries such as investment banking, insurance, and media.   Recently, the IT jobs I have worked in have been with nonprofits.

Apart from IT, my interests in life include music, playing guitar, food, travel, photography, walks, wildlife, Buddhism, skiing and watching football.

Teresa Ling Friend (Teresa Hooi Ling Ong) and I first met at University in 1995 and we got married in 1998.  That same year we moved to Docklands.  Teresa is an IT Business Analyst.
